The General Store

This structure was built before 1810 and remained in operation as a general store and post office until 1935, after which the John family sold antiques there for another 20 years.  A large collection of the account books used in the store has survived.  These books contain lists of items sold during the business's service to the community of more than a century.  The store has been restored to its c. 1880 appearance - the height of its activities in the village.  On display are many items from the Chester County Historical Society collection, and the Taylor Collection of coffee grinders and other iron food processing equipment made by the Enterprise Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia.
